Eligibility Criteria for Tanzanian Applicants

Research Students

  • Must be under 35 years of age (born on or after 2 April 1991)
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree or be a prospective graduate
  • Completed at least 16 years of formal education
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 5.0 scale

Undergraduate Students

  • Must be under 25 years of age (born on or after 2 April 2001)
  • Completed 12 years of school education
  • Fields of study include:
    • Natural Sciences (e.g., engineering, agriculture, medicine)
    • Social Sciences (e.g., law, literature, economics)

Specialized Training College Students

  • Must be under 25 years of age
  • Completed 12 years of education
  • Program includes a 1-year Japanese language course, followed by diploma studies

How to Apply

The selection process consists of two major stages:

1.Written Examination

2.Interview

  • Research Students: 21 and 24 July 2025
  • Undergraduate and Specialized Students: 28 July 2025

Only shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews. If you do not receive any communication by the end of June 2025, your application was not successful.

Important: The Embassy of Japan in Tanzania only conducts the first screening. Being recommended by the embassy does not guarantee final selection by MEXT in Japan.
