Position Summary
We are seeking an adventurous, energetic, and child-focused Volunteer Coordinator with excellent interpersonal skills. This full-time, residential position is based in a rural village near the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. It is ideal for someone who loves working with children and enjoys cultural immersion.
You will play a dual role:
- Overseeing the Volunteer Program
- Supporting children’s activities at RVCV
Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Program Management
Pre-Arrival & Recruitment
- Communicate with volunteers from initial contact to departure
- Respond to volunteer inquiries and screen applicants
- Assist with permits, in-country travel, and accommodation
- Set accurate expectations about life at RVCV
- Manage a detailed calendar for arrivals, departures, and housing
- Liaise with the U.S. office on travel logistics
- Support online recruitment and partnerships with placement organizations
On-Site Volunteer Management
- Schedule and supervise volunteer duties
- Conduct orientations and weekly meetings
- Coordinate time off and Sunday schedules
- Provide ongoing support and training
- Address volunteer/staff relations with leadership
Departure & Alumni Engagement
- Connect volunteers with the Alumni representative upon departure
Programs with RVCV Children
- Plan and coordinate children’s activities, holiday events, and breaks
- Host weekly movie nights and evening activities
- Reinforce appropriate conduct for all volunteers and visitors
- Collaborate with social work staff on child-related concerns
- Coordinate ECCE volunteer staffing with the Head Teacher
- Supervise volunteers during daily interactions with children
Resource Management
- Maintain the library, ECCE center, and activity supplies
- Manage inventory of educational materials and toys
- Organize the Volunteer House and assist with meal planning
Qualifications
- Outgoing, friendly, and culturally sensitive
- Experience in education, child development, or social work preferred
- Strong multitasking and organizational skills
- Initiative-driven and able to work independently
- Comfortable living in a rural, beautiful setting
- Prior long-term international experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum 1-year commitment required; 2-year preferred
