About the Organization
The internship is offered by the Human Resources Section of the United Nations International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT). The Mechanism continues essential functions of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY). By preserving and building on the legacy of these two courts, the IRMCT plays a vital role in advancing global justice and accountability.
Duties and Responsibilities
As an intern under the supervision of the Chief of Human Resources or a designated officer, you will:
- Manage the UN Internship Programme
- Serve as the primary contact for internal and external internship queries
- Draft and respond to official correspondence
- Handle telephone and email communications
- Prepare and follow up on internship offer letters
- Coordinate induction briefings for new interns
- Process intern check-outs and maintain internal databases
- Collaborate with departments to track application statuses
- Support ad-hoc administrative tasks within the HR section
This internship is full-time and unpaid, requiring a commitment of five working days per week.
Qualifications and Skills Required
To be eligible, applicants must meet one of the following academic requirements at the time of application:
- Be enrolled in or have completed the final year of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate-level programme (Master’s or equivalent)
While prior professional experience is not mandatory, preference will be given to candidates with:
- A background in Human Resources Management or Administration
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Language Requirements
- Fluency in English is mandatory
- French or another UN official language is desirable
