Job Purpose

As a Program Accountant, you’ll play a pivotal role in the financial management of assigned projects. From ensuring compliance with donor guidelines to preparing accurate financial reports, you will be key in enabling impactful, transparent program delivery, Hand in Hand Eastern Africa Program Accountant (2 Posts) July 2025.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all accounting transactions for assigned projects with accuracy and timely updates.
  • Reconcile invoices with purchase orders before submission for processing.
  • Maintain an updated Project Expense Posting Schedule to ensure financial liquidity.
  • Prepare monthly donor and internal financial reports, analyzing budget vs. actual variances.
  • Offer expert financial advice to improve project outcomes.
  • Conduct trial balance analysis and ensure transaction accuracy.
  • Analyze expenses to verify alignment with project contracts.
  • Monitor project budgets and support timely financial forecasting.
  • Verify and approve payment claims and documentation.
  • Prepare and submit reports to management and donors as scheduled.
  • Approve bank reconciliations, fixed asset registers, and stationery inventories.
  • Collaborate closely with operations to enhance financial project performance.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation.
  • Safeguard digital accounting systems by ensuring password security.
  • Oversee fixed asset postings, monthly depreciation, and asset disposal.
  • Build team capacity through training on donor funding and financial procedures.
  • Ensure strong recordkeeping of all supporting documentation.
  • Uphold internal control systems to safeguard organizational resources.
  • Supervise team members and manage performance effectively.
  • Facilitate and document budget reallocations and revisions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Skills

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Commerce, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.

Professional Certifications

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA-T) required.
  • Member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Tanzania (ICPA-T).

Core Competencies

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in financial or grants management.
  • Strong grasp of accounting software and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • High integrity in handling financial transactions and records.
  • Strong communication skills in both English and Kiswahili.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
