About the Embassy of Ireland in Tanzania

The Embassy plays a key role in representing and advancing Ireland’s values, interests, and prosperity abroad. Through diplomacy, development cooperation, and cultural exchange, the Embassy builds strong bilateral relations with Tanzania. As part of this mission, the Finance Manager is a critical member of the Senior Management Team, working directly under the Ambassador to ensure transparent, effective, and efficient financial operations across all Embassy activities.

Position Overview: Finance Manager

Location: Embassy of Ireland, Dar es Salaam
Start Date: As soon as possible
Contract: 3-year fixed term (includes 6-month probation)
Working Hours: Full-time, 38 hours per week
Salary: TZS 147,283,225 annually (TSH 11,329,479/month), including 13th-month salary

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the Embassy’s financial management system and internal financial controls.
  • Participate in strategic planning, budgeting, and risk management.
  • Oversee the administration and development cooperation programme budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with all local and international financial regulations and standards.
  • Manage audits, tax obligations, procurement procedures, and regulatory payments.
  • Supervise and support the Finance Assistant within the Embassy.
  • Prepare accurate financial reports for Embassy leadership and the Department of Foreign Affairs in Ireland.
  • Safeguard Embassy and programme assets through strong internal systems.
  • Provide financial guidance on partner assessments and development funding.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Internationally recognized accountancy qualification (e.g., ACCA).
  • Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience in finance, with at least 3 years in a senior position.
  • Proficient in financial software (knowledge of Infor Sun Systems is an added bonus).
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting, procurement, and financial procedures.
  • Proven integrity, discretion, and the ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in staff management and a collaborative leadership style.
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili.
  • Must have the legal right to live and work in Tanzania.

Desirable Attributes

Additional qualifications that will set candidates apart:

  • Experience with public sector accounting, donor-funded programmes, or international funding procedures.
  • Background in working with Embassies or international organizations.
  • Familiarity with development cooperation and project funding cycles.
