The Communications Unit is the engine behind UNDP Tanzania’s public voice, ensuring their work is visible through compelling content, strategic media engagement, digital outreach, and impactful storytelling.

Internship Objective

As a Communications Intern, you’ll support daily activities that amplify the impact of UNDP’s work through creative content and media. From crafting digital campaigns to helping manage social media, this internship is ideal for anyone eager to build a career in communications, media, or development.

Key Responsibilities

1. Digital Media & Content Creation

  • Draft and edit content for platforms like X (Twitter), Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook.
  • Design graphics (infographics, quote cards, banners) using Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Assist in video production and editing short clips or testimonials.

2. Media Monitoring & Analytics

  • Monitor local and international media for UNDP-related coverage.
  • Compile daily or weekly media briefs and social media performance reports.

3. Storytelling & Writing

  • Draft human interest stories, blog posts, and feature articles for the UNDP website and other platforms.
  • Support content gathering during field visits.

4. Photography & Visual Documentation

  • Capture quality images during events or field missions.
  • Organize and tag visual archives with accurate metadata.

5. Administrative Support

  • Assist in organizing outreach events, campaigns, exhibitions, and launches.
  • Provide logistics support for communications-related activities.

6. Other Duties

  • Contribute to any other tasks that align with the Communications Unit’s goals.

Requirements

Education

Applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application:

  • Enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree OR
  • Enrolled in a postgraduate program OR
  • Recently graduated (within 12 months) with a degree in:
    • Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Development Studies, Marketing, Graphic Design, Photography/Videography, or related fields.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong writing and editing skills in English (Swahili is a plus).
  • Basic knowledge of graphic design and photo/video editing tools.
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms.
  • A creative mindset and keen attention to detail.
