About the Opportunity
As an Assistant Procurement Manager, you’ll play a vital role within the Eastern Africa Area (EAA) Procurement Team, headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. Your mission? To lead strategic sourcing and procurement operations across key logistics categories such as warehousing, distribution, cold storage, customs brokerage, and inland transport solutions.
This role blends execution with strategy—you’ll drive sourcing activities while contributing to the broader procurement category vision aligned with Maersk’s “Fulfilled by Maersk” service offerings.

Your Key Responsibilities
Procurement Execution
- Lead day-to-day procurement processes and ensure every dollar is spent efficiently and professionally.
- Identify and engage with qualified vendors through market research and strategic sourcing initiatives.
- Manage competitive procurement exercises including RFIs, RFQs, and RFPs.
Vendor & Contract Management
- Negotiate pricing and service terms with suppliers.
- Monitor performance, resolve issues, and maintain productive supplier relationships.
Category Coverage
Handle sourcing for a wide range of logistics categories:
- 3rd-party warehousing & cold storage
- Industrial real estate
- Site operational equipment (OPEX & CAPEX)
- Distribution and last-mile delivery
- Container depot services
- First mile (road, rail, barge) transport
- Customs House Brokerage
Strategic Execution
- Align procurement efforts with global strategies.
- Use data and market insights to deliver cost savings and efficiency.
- Support sales and product teams with timely procurement inputs for tenders.
Process Excellence & Continuous Improvement
- Apply global procurement tools, contract frameworks, and best practices.
- Champion innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Travel to supplier and Maersk sites as required within the Eastern Africa Area.
Who We’re Looking For
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or postgraduate degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related fields
- Minimum 2 years of procurement experience, ideally in logistics
- Strong grasp of procurement best practices and supply chain management
Skills & Qualities
- Results-oriented with a proactive mindset

- Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management abilities
