About the Role
As a Security Operations Center Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the safety and security operations for United Nations personnel, property, and missions across Tanzania. You’ll work closely with UNDSS Field Security staff and other UN colleagues to monitor, report, and coordinate security communications — making you a vital part of the frontline response team.

Key Responsibilities
1. Telecommunications & Emergency Support
- Manage and relay emergency and non-emergency messages via VHF, HF, telephone, satellite, and SMS.
- Conduct emergency communication checks and personnel headcounts.
- Maintain detailed logs of staff and vehicle movements across operational areas.
- Notify focal points when personnel are involved in incidents.
2. Support & Security Communication
- Broadcast timely security updates during crises.
- Advise staff on communication protocol and appropriate system usage.
3. Equipment Management
- Ensure all communication devices are functional.
- Manage inventory of telecommunications equipment and coordinate timely repairs or replacements.
4. User Assistance & Training
- Assist and train staff in using radio and telecommunication devices.
- Conduct communication training and awareness briefings.
5. ID and Access Control
- Issue/renew UN ID and Access Cards based on agency requests.
- Maintain stock and oversee ID-related equipment.
6. Travel Monitoring
- Track and approve travel movements using the TRIP system.
- Record and monitor staff and vehicle activity during missions.
7. Security Intelligence Monitoring
- Monitor open-source news (TV, internet, newspapers, radio).
- Share daily incident reports with the security team.
What You Need to Succeed
Education:
- Degree in telecommunications, computer science, engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Candidates with a high school certificate and additional experience are also considered.
Experience:
- 1 year (Bachelor’s Degree holders) or 4 years (Secondary Education holders) in relevant roles.
- Previous work in telecommunications, radio operations, or IT is an advantage.
- UN or NGO experience is a plus.
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Windows OS.
- Experience with VHF/HF radio systems.
- Familiarity with IT hardware maintenance is desirable.
Personal Attributes:
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Able to remain calm and effective under pressure.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized.
