The Role: Environment and Climate Change Assistant, FAO Tanzania

The FAO, a leading global organization, is seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to provide technical support for its crucial Environment and Climate Change Programmes in Tanzania. Working in close collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism and the Vice President’s Office, you will be instrumental in the design, monitoring, and implementation of projects aimed at building climate resilience and ensuring the sustainable use of environmental resources. Key Responsibilities and Impact:

As the Environment and Climate Change Assistant, you will play a vital role in a wide range of activities, including:

  • Project Management and Implementation: Assist in the day-to-day delivery of projects, providing crucial support to Operational Partners and the Project Management Unit. You will help monitor implementation and contribute to risk mitigation plans.
  • Technical Expertise and Reporting: Contribute to the preparation of essential technical reports and policy briefs, providing valuable input on climate-resilient agricultural practices, land use planning, and natural resource management.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Coordination: Engage with a diverse range of stakeholders at national, regional, and district levels, including government ministries, CSOs, NGOs, and private entities. Your ability to communicate and coordinate effectively will be key to the success of these programs.
  • Knowledge and Data Management: Support the collection, research, and analysis of data to inform the design and preparation of new projects, and assist in organizing monitoring and evaluation activities.

Are You the Right Fit?

The ideal candidate will be a results-oriented team player with excellent communication and analytical skills. To be considered for this pivotal role, you should have:

  • An Advanced University Degree in a relevant field such as Environment, Climate Change, Natural Resources Management, or Forestry.
  • At least 5 years of experience working with international or national organizations on environmental, climate change, or natural resource management projects.
  • Proven experience in project development, coordination, and implementation.
  • Strong ability to facilitate workshops and meetings with diverse stakeholders.
  • A National of Tanzania with a working knowledge of English.
