Position: Indoor Production Manager
The Indoor Production Manager will oversee daily nursery operations, ensuring optimal growing conditions for both fruit and tree seedlings produced via tissue culture. This role requires a detail-oriented professional who can balance operational efficiency with strategic thinking. The successful candidate will work closely with the Farm Production Manager, Assistant Production Manager, and the back-office team, reporting directly to the Chief Operations Officer (COO).
Key Responsibilities
As an Indoor Production Manager at Maua Mazuri, your main duties will include:
- Overseeing daily operations of shade houses for banana and vegetable seedlings.
- Planning and supervising propagation activities such as seed sowing, transplanting, and nursery care.
- Monitoring germination, growth, and overall seedling quality to meet company standards.
- Keeping accurate records of seed usage, seedling production numbers, losses, and sales orders.
- Managing nursery inputs including seeds, soil media, fertilizers, pesticides, trays, and other supplies.
- Collaborating with management to forecast demand and schedule production accordingly.
- Coordinating seedling supply with farm operations, customers, and external buyers.
- Ensuring timely delivery of healthy seedlings to farms or clients.
- Enforcing health, safety, and HR regulations within the nursery team.
- Assisting senior staff in preparing budgets and financial reports.
- Providing regular progress reports and suggesting improvements in operations.
- Staying updated on modern nursery technologies and best practices.
- Procuring vitamins and supplements for seedling care.
Qualifications and Skills Required
The ideal candidate should:
- Have a passion for agriculture with at least two years of full-season management experience (a Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy or General Agriculture is an added advantage).
- Demonstrate strong leadership and the ability to build team spirit based on mutual respect and trust.
- Possess a positive management style that motivates and supports staff to perform at their best.
- Be disciplined, accurate, and committed to maintaining high hygiene standards.
- Have excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Be proficient in English and Swahili (both written and spoken).
- Be computer literate with solid knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Display excellent communication skills and be a strong team player.
- Show eagerness to learn continuously and improve professionally.
