Position Details

Position: Vehicle Mechanics/Driver
Location: Arusha, Tanzania

This role combines both mechanical expertise and professional driving skills, ensuring the safe transport of staff, patients, visitors, and goods, while also maintaining and repairing the organization’s vehicles and machinery.

Key Responsibilities

As a Mechanic:

  • Diagnose and repair vehicles and machinery (generators, lawn mowers, etc.).
  • Estimate repair costs and required spare parts.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and routine inspections.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs and servicing.
  • Supervise external repair vendors when necessary.
  • Provide technical advice on vehicle care and safety.

As a Driver:

  • Transport staff, patients, and visitors safely and professionally.
  • Ensure vehicles are equipped with required documents and emergency kits.
  • Perform daily vehicle checks before duty.
  • Maintain mileage, fuel, and maintenance logs.
  • Follow health and safety policies at all times.
  • Keep vehicles clean, sanitized, and in excellent working condition.
  • Prioritize patient safety and comfort during all journeys.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Education: Form IV/Secondary School Certificate.
  • Training:
    • Professional driving certificate (NIT).
    • Vehicle mechanics certificate.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 3+ years as a professional driver.
    • At least 2 years in vehicle maintenance/repair.
  • Other Skills:
    • Valid driver’s license with a clean record.
    • Strong knowledge of vehicle mechanics and Tanzanian traffic laws.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Problem-solving abilities and quick decision-making skills.
    • Physically fit to manage heavy lifting and challenging weather conditions.
    • Highly punctual and reliable.
