The Alliance of Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) delivers science-driven solutions that harness agricultural biodiversity to sustainably transform food systems. As part of CGIAR, the Alliance addresses global challenges such as malnutrition, climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation.
Key Responsibilities
- Champion climate adaptation and regenerative agriculture to boost productivity and climate resilience.
- Support SMEs and landscape partners, including smallholder farmers, in addressing climate risks and improving productivity.
- Facilitate market strategies for SMEs through Innovation Platforms focused on climate-smart agriculture.
- Strengthen public-private collaboration for resilient smallholder production and market access.
- Lead capacity-building initiatives targeting SMEs, farmers, and institutions.
- Co-develop and monitor value chain-based CSA (Climate Smart Agriculture) packages in selected regions.
- Support scaling of climate-resilient and regenerative agricultural production.
- Upgrade data collection/sharing platforms for knowledge management.
- Represent CIAT in sector dialogues related to sustainable production and CSA.
- Collaborate with procurement, gender, agronomy, seed, and market specialists.
- Prepare and deliver quarterly performance reports.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Climate Change, Environmental Sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in agricultural value chain transformation and climate-smart agriculture.
- Proven experience in climate change adaptation, stakeholder engagement, and working with diverse partners including private sector and government. Senior Research Associate – Agriculture Value Chain Transformation at CIAT May 2025
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of gender and sustainability issues in agriculture.
- Competence in both qualitative and quantitative data analysis is an added advantage.
- Familiarity with Tanzanian government priorities in climate change and agriculture.
Terms of Employment
- Contract: 1-year (renewable based on performance and funding).
- Salary Scale: BG07 with a minimum basic salary of TZS 3,929,704 per month.
