What You’ll Be Doing

As an Agronomy Technician Trainee, your role will be critical in supporting JTI’s mission to achieve sustainable crop production. You will work closely with local growers to implement best agricultural practices, monitor crop performance, and ensure compliance with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Grower Contracting
    Build and manage relationships with tobacco growers in your assigned area to meet JTI’s quality and volume targets.
  • Grower Visits
    Provide regular extension services to monitor crop development, offer technical support, and improve grower performance.
  • Sustainability Initiatives
    Support the JTI Barn Upgrade Program and promote environmental best practices across farming operations.
  • Data Collection & Analysis
    Participate in accurate and timely collection of crop, forestry, and infrastructure data for analysis and reporting.
  • Health, Safety & Compliance
    Follow and promote all health, safety, and environmental regulations, including agricultural labor practices.

What You’ll Need

  • Education: Degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Extension, or a related field.
  • Experience: 1 year or less (prior exposure to the tobacco industry is an advantage).
  • Skills:
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
    • Strong communication and presentation skills
    • Bilingual in English and Swahili
    • Must be able to ride a motorcycle with a valid motorcycle license
