What Is the Intelligent Transport System Internship?

The City of Johannesburg (COJ), under Circular 016/2025, is inviting applications from unemployed youth for an internship in the Intelligent Transport Systems unit of the Transport Department. This programme is designed especially for students who have not yet completed an internship in their field of study.

Interns will be based at the Control Centre in the Old Mutual Building, 75 Helen Joseph Street, Johannesburg, where they will contribute directly to the city’s smart transport initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

As an ITS Intern, you’ll gain exposure to:

  • Operating the Automated Fare Collection (AFC) system
  • Analyzing transport data and suggesting system enhancements
  • Supporting the planning and implementation of public transport projects
  • Preparing reports and monitoring system performance

Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • National Diploma in one of the following:

  • Must be computer literate (MS Office skills are essential)
  • Must not have completed an internship in your field of study before
  • Applicants must reside within Johannesburg
