The prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK (CSC) is now inviting qualified Tanzanian candidates to apply for fully funded scholarships for the academic year 2026/2027. Since its inception in 1960, the CSC has empowered over 30,000 individuals from across the Commonwealth to study in the UK, building capacity and knowledge to solve pressing global challenges. What is the Commonwealth Scholarship?

The Commonwealth Scholarship is a UK government initiative aimed at supporting international development. It offers fully funded postgraduate study opportunities in top UK universities to outstanding individuals from eligible Commonwealth countries, including Tanzania.

Who Can Apply?

The scholarship is open to candidates pursuing Master’s or PhD programmes. Applicants must meet the following academic and eligibility requirements:

For Master’s Degree Applicants:

  • Must hold a First Degree with at least Upper Second Class Honours.

For PhD Applicants:

  • Must possess a relevant Master’s degree with Upper Second Class Honours or Distinction.
  • Must have the support of at least one potential UK supervisor (listed in the application).
  • Must submit all supporting documents in the correct format.

Note: If your academic qualifications were obtained outside Tanzania, they must be verified by the appropriate accrediting authorities.

Required Documents

As part of your application, ensure you submit the following:

  1. Certified copies of academic certificates and transcripts
  2. Two recommendation letters from academic or professional referees
  3. One institutional support statement from a UK university (PhD only)
  4. Proof of Tanzanian citizenship or refugee status in a Commonwealth country
  5. A well-structured study plan, showing the impact of your proposed studies on Tanzania’s development
