NIN Now Mandatory for Loan Applications

“We expect to open the loan application window in June 2025. The National Identification Number will be a mandatory requirement when filling out loan application forms,”
— Dr. Bill Kiwia, Executive Director, HESLB
He emphasized that using NIN will improve the integrity of applicant data and enhance the loan recovery process once students graduate.
NIDA Ready to Serve Applicants Efficiently
On his part, Mr. James Kaji, Director General of NIDA, assured students of timely services and urged early registration to avoid delays.
“NIDA is life. We are executing the President’s directive to integrate all government systems. We encourage all prospective students to visit NIDA offices early to get their identification numbers,”

Apply for NIN Online to Avoid Queues
To ease the process, NIDA has improved its online registration system. Applicants can apply for their NIN from the comfort of their homes through the following link: https://eonline.nida.go.tz
According to Mr. Kaji:
- 75% of the registration process is completed by the applicant online.
- Only 25% is handled at the NIDA offices—minimizing waiting times.
System Integration Between HESLB and NIDA Completed
Dr. Kiwia further revealed that technical teams from both organizations have finalized the integration of their digital systems.
“This integration ensures that all loan applicants input their NINs correctly. It also allows us to retrieve verified information instantly—supporting both application assessment and future loan recovery,”
— Dr. Kiwia
Awareness Campaigns to Begin in Dar es Salaam
HESLB and NIDA will launch a nationwide awareness campaign, starting in Dar es Salaam, to ensure students stay well-informed. The campaign will focus on:
- Educating students about the importance of NIN.
- Guiding them through the application process.
- Encouraging early registration.
This strategic collaboration between HESLB and NIDA marks a transformative step in improving public service delivery, accountability, and digital integration in Tanzania’s education sector. As the student loan application season approaches, all prospective applicants should promptly secure their NINs to avoid last-minute challenges.
