Internship Overview
- Position: Legal Affairs Intern

The IRMCT was established to carry forward the essential functions of the former International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY). hence the Office of the President provides judicial, legal, diplomatic, and administrative support to ensure the Mechanism fulfills its responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
As a Legal Intern in the Office of the President, you will play a key role in supporting a variety of legal and administrative functions. Your tasks may include:
- Conducting comprehensive legal research on international criminal law and related fields
- Assisting in drafting and proofreading judicial documents, including decisions and orders
- Supporting the preparation of reports for the UN Security Council and General Assembly
- Analyzing relevant laws, policies, and procedural rules
- Drafting speeches, correspondence, and official statements
- Providing assistance on press and policy-related matters, Also
- Supporting the management and retention of official records and archives
- Handling routine administrative tasks such as compiling and organizing legal materials
This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain direct exposure to the functioning of an international judicial body.
Required Qualifications
To qualify for this internship, applicants must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application:
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first-level law degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent), OR
- Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate law program (Master’s degree or higher).
Other requirements include:
- No prior work experience is required, but relevant legal training or experience is an advantage
- Proficiency in standard computer software applications
- Strong academic background in law, preferably in international or criminal law
Language Requirements
- Fluency in English is required
- Knowledge of French is highly desirable
- A working knowledge of Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian or Kinyarwanda is an added advantage
