About IRMCT
The IRMCT was established by the United Nations Security Council in 2010 to carry out essential residual functions of the former International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY). With offices in Arusha and The Hague, the Mechanism handles court support services, sentence enforcement, case monitoring, archival preservation, and witness protection. As an intern, you will be based in the Library Unit under the Registry Division in Arusha, reporting to the Library Assistant.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Library Intern, you will assist in maintaining and developing the library’s operations and services, including:
- Handling library circulation: check-in/out, recalls, and material retrieval
- Cataloguing and classification of books and archival materials
- Assisting library users and providing research/reference support
- Organizing and indexing new content and digital records
- Responding to information inquiries and conducting guided tours
- Compiling daily news summaries from local and international media
- Assisting with outreach, PR, and protocol services
- Supporting social media efforts and visual archival research
- Performing general library administrative tasks
This internship provides practical experience in international criminal justice, legal research, library science, and digital media.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible, you must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application:
- Be currently enrolled in the final year of a bachelor’s degree
- Be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate program (Master’s or higher)
Relevant fields include:
- Library/Information Science
- Communications or Journalism
- Information Management
- Multimedia or related disciplines
No prior work experience is required, but the following skills are desirable:
- Knowledge of social media platforms
- Familiarity with library cataloguing systems
- Basic photography or audiovisual production skills
- Strong computer literacy in standard software
Language Requirements
- Fluency in English is required
- Knowledge of French, Kinyarwanda, or Kiswahili is a plus

- This is an unpaid internship. Interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses
- Interns must not publish any reports or use any unpublished information without written permission from the Chief of Human Resources
