Founded in 1959, UMATI is a well-established national NGO dedicated to promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) across Tanzania. The organization operates as a Full Member Association of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), accredited since 2015.

Working closely with the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups, and Regional Administration and Local Government (PORALG), UMATI has been a pioneer in offering Family Planning (FP), youth-friendly SRHR programs, and community-based service delivery for over six decades.

Job Title: Medical Officer In-Charge

Job Purpose

The Medical Officer In-Charge will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the UMATI Clinic. The incumbent will ensure the delivery of high-quality reproductive and general health services, supervise clinical staff, and promote compliance with medical standards and UMATI policies.

This leadership role involves developing and implementing clinic strategies, managing service delivery, and ensuring continuous improvement in healthcare quality and client satisfaction.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure effective and efficient delivery of quality reproductive and general healthcare services.
  • Oversee compliance with UMATI policies, professional ethics, and healthcare regulations.
  • Diagnose, treat, and refer clients while maintaining confidentiality and client safety.
  • Conduct minor surgeries, cervical cancer screening, and other simple clinical procedures.
  • Develop comprehensive service packages to meet client needs and attract a diverse clientele.
  • Provide integrated Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services, including all Family Planning methods.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and timely reporting.
  • Supervise clinic operations, financial management, and service statistics.
  • Ensure adherence to clinical protocols, quality standards, and Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) measures.
  • Stay updated with new drugs, treatment regimens, and standard operating procedures.
  • Manage medical supplies, drugs, and laboratory reagents efficiently.
  • Utilize the Clinic Management Information System (CMIS) for effective data management.
  • Support continuous improvement and performance evaluation of the clinic team.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience

To qualify for this role, applicants must have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine from a recognized institution.
  • A valid practicing license.
  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Knowledge of ultrasound, primary healthcare, maternal and child health, sexual and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, and communicable diseases.
  • Understanding of pharmacology and infection prevention and control (IPC) procedures.
