Your Role: Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) Volunteer

As a MEL Volunteer, you’ll be instrumental in strengthening our data infrastructure, refining our monitoring tools, and driving strategic decisions through insight and evaluation.

  • Position Title: Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) Volunteer
  • Organization: Silverleaf Academy
  • Location: Arusha, Tanzania (with remote or hybrid work options)
  • Duration: 6–12 months (flexible)
  • Type: Volunteer, Full-time or Part-time
  • Reports To: Tech & Data Manager
  • Collaborates With: Senior Leadership, School Leaders, and Fundraising Team

What You’ll Do: Key Responsibilities

1. MEL Framework Development

  • Refine and implement Silverleaf’s impact measurement framework.
  • Align tools and indicators with strategic goals and program outcomes.
  • Map current data systems and identify critical gaps in measurement.

2. Data Management & Analysis

  • Design or improve data collection and analysis tools.
  • Clean, validate, and analyze data on student learning, teacher performance, and school quality.
  • Produce regular dashboards and reports for internal teams.

3. Learning & Strategy Support

  • Facilitate reflection sessions to promote learning from data.
  • Convert findings into practical recommendations for program and strategy improvements.
  • Help leadership address key learning priorities.

4. Evaluation & Reporting

  • Support baseline, midline, and endline evaluations, from tool design to analysis.
  • Draft high-quality MEL reports for donors, partners, and internal stakeholders.
  • Create compelling data visualizations and impact stories.

5. Capacity Building

  • Train team members on MEL tools and data literacy.
  • Foster a data-driven culture across departments and leadership.

What We’re Looking For: Skills & Experience

Required:

  • At least 3 years of experience in MEL, data analysis, or program evaluation.
  • Strong skills in Excel and data visualization (e.g., Power BI, Google Sheets).
  • Proficiency in both quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • Excellent English communication and report-writing abilities.
  • Sharp attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple data sources.

Preferred:

  • Background in education or experience with school-based data.
  • Familiarity with MEL frameworks in multi-site organizations.
  • Experience using data platforms like KoboToolbox, ODK, or SurveyCTO.
  • Prior work in East Africa or similar development contexts.
