Internship Types

1. In-Person Internships
Selected participants will be placed at Japanese SMEs for on-site internships across various industries. These internships offer direct exposure to Japanese business practices, teamwork culture, and innovation models.

2. Online Internships
For those unable to travel, the program offers a remote option. Interns work from their home countries while being mentored and guided by host companies in Japan.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the METI Internship, applicants must:

Be a national of one of the eligible developing countries (see official list here).
Be between 18 and 40 years old by August 25, 2025.
Have strong communication skills in English or Japanese.
Be able to provide a recommendation letter and enrollment/graduation certificate from their current or previous institution.
Be willing and able to participate in pre-training and internship activities.
Not have previously participated in the METI Internship Program (2016–2024).
Meet any additional requirements set by the host company.

Internship Benefits

This fully funded program offers a comprehensive package to ensure interns have a productive and enriching experience:

Daily activity stipend:
- ¥1,000/day for online participants (paid in local currency).
