Organizational Context
This role sits within the Division of Regional Bureaus and Field Offices (GLO/RFO) and is based at the UNIDO Field Office in Tanzania. The office also oversees operations in Burundi, Malawi, Mauritius, Seychelles, and Comoros. You will work under the direct supervision of the UNIDO Representative (UR) and in close collaboration with Tanzania’s Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIT) and Zanzibar’s Ministry of Trade and Industrial Development (MTID).
Key Responsibilities
As the National Programme Officer, your primary duties will include:
- Lead the Programme for Country Partnership (PCP) Secretariat for Tanzania
- Analyze industrial data and advise on strategy documents and policy planning
- Draft components of technical cooperation project proposals
- Coordinate with stakeholders, including government bodies and private sector partners
- Monitor and report on ongoing projects using the UN INFO platform
- Represent UNIDO in inter-agency groups, forums, and evaluations
- Facilitate communication, advocacy, and media relations on behalf of UNIDO
- Support UNCT engagement and align UNIDO priorities with national development goals
- Draft speeches, presentations, progress reports, and formal correspondence
- Contribute to resource mobilization efforts and partnership development
- Oversee administrative and operational activities of the Field Office when required
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Advanced university degree in Economics, Engineering, International Relations, Business Administration, or related fields.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in industrial development and private sector development
- Strong background in technical cooperation, monitoring & evaluation, and project coordination
- Familiarity with Tanzania’s institutional frameworks and development priorities
- Experience working with the UN or government institutions is an added advantage
Languages
- Fluency in English and Kiswahili is mandatory
- Knowledge of other UN official languages is a plus
