The Nature Conservancy Marine Internship Program May 2025, Africa Oceans Strategy emphasizes large-scale marine protection, sustainable fisheries, restorative aquaculture, and community-led conservation—especially across Seychelles, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Gabon, Namibia, and Angola.
About the Position
TNC is seeking two (2) Marine Program Interns to support the implementation of sustainable fisheries and coastal community-led conservation activities in Tanzania. This is a full-time internship based in Dar es Salaam, with up to 40% travel to Zanzibar Islands and Tanga mainland coast.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in sustainable fisheries and aquaculture interventions under guidance from the Aquaculture Specialist (WIO) and Marine Fisheries Specialist (Tanzania)
- Support training and follow-up activities related to seaweed farming best practices in Zanzibar and coastal Tanzania
- Assist with electronic fisheries monitoring, commercialization efforts, and value chain improvements
- Help implement gender integration activities in marine conservation and community development
- Coordinate workshops, fieldwork, stakeholder meetings, and capacity-building sessions
- Contribute to the formation and strengthening of Shehia Fisher Committees and Beach Management Units
- Work under physically demanding and variable field conditions in remote areas
What You’ll Bring
Basic Requirements
- At least 18 years old
- Currently enrolled in a recognized institution of higher learning
- Relevant coursework in marine science, fisheries, aquaculture, or natural sciences
- Willingness to travel and work in remote areas
- Required documents:
- Proof of university/college registration
- Recommendation letter from institution

- CV with 3 references
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in marine biology, aquaculture, fisheries, or related fields
- Fluency in English and Kiswahili
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Familiarity with data management and basic statistics
- Prior experience with mangrove conservation or marine science is an advantage
