This initiative supports sustainable development within local fisheries while promoting environmental stewardship and inclusive governance.

Position Overview: Project Coordinator

FAO seeks a qualified and motivated Project Coordinator to lead and support the effective implementation of the SSF Guidelines project in Tanzania. The Project Coordinator will operate under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Tanzania, the direct guidance of the Assistant FAO Representative (Programme), and technical support from FAO headquarters and regional teams.

Key Responsibilities

The Project Coordinator will be responsible for planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of project activities. Project Coordinator at FAO Tanzania May 2025Key duties include:

  • Project Management
    • Develop and monitor project workplans and budgets.
    • Ensure operational arrangements and technical inputs align with FAO standards.
    • Coordinate project implementation according to FAO procedures.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Collaborate with government agencies such as the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries.
    • Coordinate with the National Task Team (NTT) for SSF Guidelines implementation.
    • Encourage synergies with other national and international projects.
  • Monitoring and Reporting
    • Participate in monthly review meetings with FAO HQ and maintain progress records.
    • Support preparation of progress and final reports for donors.
  • Communication and Visibility
    • Produce communication materials highlighting project results.
    • Ensure all materials adhere to FAO’s communications standards.
  • Resource Mobilization
    • Seek additional funding and partnership opportunities for SSF implementation.

Qualifications and Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in Fisheries Science, Biological Sciences, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or related fields.
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience in fisheries policy, management, ecosystem-based fisheries, or rural/community development.
  • Working knowledge of English and Swahili.
  • Familiarity with Tanzanian institutions in fisheries and the environment is an added advantage.
