This is a supervisory position and requires occasional travel within Tanzania.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Foreign Service National Investigator will serve as the Regional Security Office’s (RSO) primary liaison with Tanzanian law enforcement and security agencies. Major responsibilities include:

  • Supervising the Foreign Service National Investigator (FSNI) Unit.
  • Overseeing and conducting complex background checks, sensitive investigations, and special cases.
  • Advising the RSO and the Chief of Mission (COM) on security programs requiring extensive coordination with host nation authorities.
  • Managing host nation capacity building and contributing to U.S. Mission emergency preparedness.
  • Providing strategic security and law enforcement planning in coordination with Tanzanian authorities.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • A university degree in law enforcement, criminology, or related field (or host-country equivalent).

Experience

  • At least five (5) years of professional experience as an investigator or special agent.
  • Proven track record in handling complex, high-profile cases such as organized crime, fraud, or sensitive security matters.
  • Extensive knowledge of Tanzanian legal procedures and government law enforcement structures.

Language Proficiency

  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili (Level IV Speaking/Reading/Writing) with the ability to translate between both languages.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong ability to maintain high-level contacts within Tanzanian security institutions.
  • Competence in supervising teams and training others.
  • Expertise in drafting reports, handling sensitive evidence, and presenting data in multiple formats.
