About the Role

The Senior Site Supervisor – Open Cut will lead Orica’s on-site operations, ensuring high performance, quality service delivery, and adherence to safety and environmental standards. This role involves overseeing both plant and underground operations, managing teams, and maintaining compliance with Orica’s Service Level Agreements and corporate guidelines.

You will be the driving force behind operational excellence, from product quality control to resource planning, all while promoting a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee Orica’s operations at the Bulyanhulu site, ensuring contractual KPIs are met or exceeded.
  • Provide analytical and decision support to the Sprint Lead for continuous improvement and cost reduction.
  • Participate in short, medium, and long-term operational planning activities.
  • Manage product forecasts, inventory counts, and reconciliations with precision.
  • Ensure all charging equipment and operational tools are maintained according to Orica’s standards.
  • Conduct monthly meetings with customers to review performance and maintain alignment on expectations.
  • Lead audits, inspections, and compliance activities to meet regulatory and company safety requirements.
  • Oversee employee training programs, ensuring completion of all mandatory certifications.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping, record-keeping, and preventive maintenance.
  • Support budgeting, staffing, and capital expenditure planning for the site.
  • Analyze inventory and optimize stock management to improve profitability.
  • Manage daily scheduling of staff, raw material orders, and maintenance planning.
  • Address operational issues proactively with actionable solutions.
  • Liaise effectively with external regulatory bodies during audits and inspections.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree or Diploma in Mining Engineering, registered under the Tanzania Engineers Registration Board (ERB).
  • 8–12 years of experience in mining, with at least 5 years in underground operations.
  • Strong leadership skills and proven ability to manage diverse teams.
  • Deep understanding of the Explosives Industry and blasting operations.
  • Skilled in process improvement and stakeholder management.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Valid Tanzanian Driving License required.
