The Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) and the Cereal and Other Produce Regulatory Authority (COPRA), is offering 50 temporary job opportunities for agriculture graduates under the special Avocado Development Program, Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) – 50 Positions for Agriculture Graduates.
This initiative falls under the Building a Better Tomorrow (BBT) program, aimed at empowering youth in agriculture while boosting the avocado value chain in Tanzania. The project will run during the 2025/2026 farming season in Rugwe District, Mbeya Region.
Available Positions
SUA is inviting applications for 50 temporary positions as part of the BBT Agricultural Extension Entrepreneurship Scheme (BBT AEES):
- Agriculture Officer – 5 Posts
- Provide technical advice on avocado farming, from land preparation, crop management, harvesting, value addition, storage, and marketing.
- Supervise quality standards of avocados from the farm to the market.
- Support farmers in adopting good agricultural practices.
- Conduct weekly progress reporting, crop forecasting, and farmer training.
- Oversee distribution and proper use of farm inputs.
- Tanzanian graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, or Crop Production.
- Aged between 18–40 years.
- Honest, hardworking, with good interpersonal skills.
- Ready to work in rural areas under a fixed-term contract.
- Prior experience in avocado farming is an added advantage.
- Assistant Agriculture Officer – 45 Posts
- Assist in providing extension services to farmers.
- Support input distribution, record-keeping, and data collection.
- Train farmers on best practices and safe use of pesticides.
- Help in linking farmers with other agricultural stakeholders.
- Conduct end-of-season production assessments.
- Tanzanian graduate with a Diploma in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, or Crop Production.
- Aged between 18–35 years.
- Must be ready to work in villages under contract terms.
- Previous avocado farming experience is an added advantage.
