Why This Role Matters

As part of the Standing Police Capacity (SPC), you will be at the forefront of shaping police components in new and existing UN peace operations. This includes advising on crowd control, riot response, deployment of Formed Police Units (FPUs), and strengthening public order capabilities within national law enforcement agencies.

Whether you operate from headquarters in Brindisi or deploy to field missions, you directly shape how public order is enforced in volatile regions,You’ll help lay the foundation for safe, secure, and just societies by developing doctrine, strategies, and on-the-ground training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Firstly advise UN peacekeeping operations on crowd management, riot control, and the use of FPUs.
  • Support national police reform by enhancing public order capabilities and structures.
  • Contribute to policy development, operational planning, and deployment strategies.
  • Deliver expert guidance during field assignments and assist in capacity-building of local law enforcement.
  • Provide additional advisory support on VIP protection, convoy operations, and diplomatic security as needed.

Required Competencies

  • Professionalism: Deep knowledge of democratic policing, strategic public order responses, and law enforcement reform.
  • Planning & Organizing: Ability to anticipate needs, allocate resources effectively, and manage operational plans, also
  • Teamwork: Strong collaboration skills with a focus on collective success and inclusive decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Education: Advanced university degree in applied or social sciences, or a related field. Equivalent qualifications with significant experience may be considered.
  • Training: Graduation from a recognized police academy or law enforcement institution is required.
  • Experience: At least 7 years (or 9 years without an advanced degree) of law enforcement experience, including 3+ years in crowd control, riot management, and strategic operations.
  • UN/International Exposure: Previous experience in UN peacekeeping or similar international operations is essential.
  • Rank Requirement: Minimum rank of Superintendent, Lt. Colonel, or equivalent.
  • Languages: Fluency in English is required. French proficiency is an asset.
