Your Role: Monitoring, Evaluation, Research & Learning Officer (MERL)
As the MERL Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring Water Mission’s projects in Tanzania are impactful, data-driven, and aligned with our mission. You’ll lead the monitoring, evaluation, and learning efforts that fuel continuous improvement, transparency, and accountability across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
1. Mission & Culture
- Model servant leadership and maintain a strong Christian witness.
- Participate in prayer and biblically based staff devotions.
- Promote a God-honoring work culture of excellence, honesty, and innovation.
2. MEL System Design & Implementation
- Develop and manage project performance monitoring systems.
- Contribute to the design and execution of evaluations, research, and learning strategies.
- Plan and allocate resources for MEL activities.
3. Data Collection & Quality Assurance
- Supervise field data collection and train staff on digital data tools.
- Ensure timely, complete, and accurate data reporting.
- Conduct routine data quality audits and implement improvements.
4. Data Analysis & Visualization
- Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to produce actionable insights.
- Develop compelling reports, dashboards, and infographics.
- Use data to inform project design and strategic decisions.
5. Research & Learning
- Promote a learning culture by disseminating findings internally and externally.
- Work closely with international donors and stakeholders like USAID, UNICEF, and charity: water.
- Support reflection and learning sessions to drive adaptive programming.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Monitoring & Evaluation, Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in M&E roles, preferably in the WASH sector.
- Familiarity with research methodologies and evaluation tools (e.g., surveys, focus groups).
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in M&E software and tools such as mWater, ODK, SurveyCTO, Power BI, SPSS, R, or STATA.
- Strong data analysis and visualization skills.
- Experience with cloud-based data platforms and open-source MEL tools.
Soft Skills
- Excellent communication and analytical skills.
- Cross-cultural sensitivity and team collaboration ability.
- Commitment to Water Mission’s Christian values and mission.
Language
- Proficiency in both English and Kiswahili is required.
Work Conditions
- Willingness to travel and work in rural and field locations, including extended stays in Kasulu.
- Flexible and comfortable working in both office and field environments.
