Internship Overview

  • Position Title: Intern – Youth Grassroot Community Leadership
  • Location: Masasi, Tanzania
  • Duration: 12 months (starting May 2025)
  • Position Type: Full-time
  • Remuneration: Monthly internship stipend
  • Reports to: Head of Communications
  • Application Deadline: April 30, 2025
  • Eligibility: Open to Tanzanian nationals residing in Masasi only

Key Responsibilities

The intern will support the WWF Tanzania Country Office in coordinating and implementing the Grassroot Leadership Programme. Responsibilities include:

  • Organizing and facilitating youth leadership trainings and capacity-building workshops
  • Coaching youth leaders in communication, leadership, and project management
  • Coordinating Learning Circle meetings to share ideas and challenges among youth leaders
  • Planning community meetings to foster collaboration and peer learning
  • Assisting in the development of tools to monitor and evaluate the programme
  • Supporting youth participation in advocacy and conservation events, such as Earth Hour and Biodiversity Day
  • Documenting program success stories, creating reports, and producing video content
  • Facilitating online events like the Global Youth Meeting (GYM) and helping design programme content
  • Building partnerships with youth networks, NGOs, and local organizations

Candidate Profile

Required Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in education, communication, social sciences, environmental studies, or a related field
  • Prior experience working with youth groups or community-based organizations
  • Experience in training facilitation or youth group leadership
  • Basic understanding of social media strategy and digital communication

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Proficiency in both English and Kiswahili (written and spoken)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong planning, organization, and reporting skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Creativity, adaptability, and proactiveness
  • A keen interest in environmental conservation and sustainability
  • Affiliation with youth networks is an added advantage
  • Commitment to WWF values: courage, respect, integrity, and collaboration

Working Relationships

Internal

  • Daily interaction with WWF Country Office staff

External

  • Engagement with youth leaders, community members, local government, stakeholders, and WWF international teams
